Following Singapore Airlines’ (SIA) announcement on 29 September that it will be rolling out three special experiences for its customers to enjoy the SIA experience either on a plane, at its training centre or at home, the national carrier released its pricing of the initiatives two days later.

If you’d like a three-course meal onboard SIA’s superjumbo A380 (available for two afternoons only on 24 and 25 October 2020), that will cost S$50 in economy class and S$90 for premium economy. If you’d like a luxurious experience, a four-course meal will cost S$300 in business class and $600 in Suites.

Meals will feature international cuisines and items from a Peranakan menu specially designed by Singaporean chef Shermay Lee. The economy and premium economy meals will include a selection of Peranakan, Japanese and Western mains. For suites and business class, the four-course meal includes options such as Lobster Thermidor and beef fillet. Each meal comes with two complimentary alcoholic drinks and free flow of other beverages and you’d be able to watch a movie while you dine.

Before your meal, you can book a slot to tour the A380 aircraft where you get a rare look at private access areas. Turn up for the Restaurant A380 @Changi experience in traditional heritage wear, such as the sarong kebaya, cheongsam, saree, batik shirt or even a kilt, and you will even receive a special gift. Reservations for the restaurant experience will open from 12 October 2020 on KrisShop.com.

SIA says the aircraft will be thoroughly cleaned after every dining experience, with extra care taken to sanitise common surfaces. Diners will be seated in groups of up to five, with safe distancing between groups.

The suite of new services aimed to engage customers on the ground, titled Discover Your Singapore Airlines, comes on the back of the COVID-19 pandemic which continues to curtail flights and batter the aviation industry.

For a tour of the airline’s training facilities during the school holidays (on Nov 21, 22, 28 and 29), an adult ticket costs S$30 while a child ticket (3 to 12 years old) costs S$150. The ticket includes a free meal from the selection of in-flight meals available on that day, which includes satay. Visitors can find out what it’s like for pilots and cabin crew to take to the skies, take a look at their flight simulators and see the latest cabin products, and more. Craft activities such as balloon sculpting will be conducted as well.

If you’re an aviation enthusiast, you can opt for an exclusive experience in the flight simulator for an additional S$500. For S$88, the little tots can turn into junior cabin crew members for a day where they get a chance to dress up and take home their own SIA sarong kebaya uniform. Wine appreciation and grooming workshops are available for an additional fee as well. Reservations will open from 1 November.

To indulge in SIA’s in-flight experience at home, prices start from S$288 for a business class meal for two, inclusive of a pair of business class amenity kits. Main course options include Hanakoireki and roasted lamb loin and you may select either a bottle of French wine or brut champagne.

A first class meal for two starts from S$488. Poached lobster and Kyo-Kaiseki are among the main course options. Similarly, you’d receive a pair of first class amenity kits.

SIA Book the Chef

Meals are created by renowned chefs on SIA’s International Culinary Panel, such as Chef Georges Blanc, a three Michelin-starred chef from France, and Chef Yoshihiro Murata who has a three Michelin star restaurant, Kikunoi. A digital guide on how to heat and plate the dishes will be provided, as well as a specially curated music playlist. Luxury tableware and upgrades are available for an additional fee. For a private dining experience, book a chef through the cabin crew concierge to enjoy the services of a private chef who will reheat, plate and serve the meal for you. Reservations will open from 5 October.

You can book your experience on KrisShop.com. For more information, visit the Discover Your Singapore Airlines website.
