Singapore Airlines elevates customer experience by tapping into all five senses

Customer experience has always been a prime focus of Singapore Airlines. Year after year their efforts have been recognised through numerous awards, contributing to their long-standing status of the world’s most awarded airline.

Our five senses connect us to the world and sensory experiences can be beneficial in calming anxiety, enhancing memory rendition and improving moods. Take a look at how Singapore Airlines engages your senses for a truly elevated experience.

Ten flowers native to Singapore inspired the new batik motif

Sight: An iconic pattern

Batik motifs were infused in the original design of the Singapore Girl’s sarong kebaya all the way back in 1968. The iconic print was refreshed earlier this year, adding a modern touch. Inspiration was taken from the shapes and colours of 10 flowers native to Singapore. While the new motif will not replace the original ones in the cabin crew’s uniform, it has been incorporated into merchandise available on board, on KrisShop retail items and even cabin products.

Boon Tong Kee Chicken Rice, featured in Michelin Singapore Guide (2017 – 2019), is available on board selected flights amongst other popular local fares

Taste: Local and international flavours

Delicious local and international fare can be enjoyed on all Singapore Airlines’ flights. The airline recently collaborated with SATS on their hawker brands accelerator programme, as a way to enhance the airline’s Popular Local Fare initiative. Those keen to explore international cuisine can choose dishes inspired by the airline’s International Culinary Panel, made up of celebrated chefs from around the world. Wellness initiatives also offer deliciously wholesome options.

Smell: Contemporary scents

Batik Flora, Singapore Airlines’ signature new scent, features six out of the ten flowers found in the new batik motif: Simpoh Lak, White Kopsia, Aquatic Ginger, Common Dianella, Utania Nervosa and Seashore Purslane. It provides a unique sensory experience and evokes the feeling of familiarity when traveling with Singapore Airlines.

A familiar scent for Business Class travellers can be found in the the airline’s Penhaligon’s amenity kit. The invigorating cologne provides passengers with a soothing aroma. Here, a burst of citrus and basil, along with jasmine, cardamom, lily of the valley and amber can all be noted. Singapore Airlines was recognised at the Onboard Hospitality Awards 2021, when they took home an award for Best Onboard Amenity Kit.

Hearing: Sound of Singapore Airlines

The Sound of Singapore Airlines was also inspired by the iconic batik motif and pays homage to the airline’s brand heritage. The airline collaborated with renowned composer Rohan De Livera and world class orchestra, Budapest Symphonic Orchestra, to infuse the ten featured flowers into a melodic symphony, which is now used in various places throughout your journey, from the SilverKris lounges to your cabins.
