Uttarakhand, fondly known as ‘Devbhumi’ meaning the Land of the Gods is blessed with its lush green forests that are home to varied wildlife and bird species, its thriving rivers, and the glorious Himalayan peaks, glaciers, and valleys.
Apart from being home to more than 600 species of birds because of its blooming eco-system, Uttarakhand also welcomes a large number of migratory birds from around the country and the globe every year. You can spot plenty of wildlife too, including elephants, leopards, and sambhar. It is particularly rewarding for birding aficionados who may be able to spot birds like the oriental magpie-robin, tawny fish owl, and many more. Look out for birds along nature trails.
Common kingfisher (Alcedo atthis)
This colourful, short-tailed, large-headed kingfisher is commonly sighted in the region and mostly feed on freshwater fish, caught by diving.
