If you’re looking to spend an extended amount of time in Thailand, the recent announcement from the Royal Thai Embassy in Singapore should come as good news.
From 7 October, Singapore residents (Singapore citizens and Permanent Residents), their spouses and children (not over 20 years of age) who wish to stay in Thailand for a minimum period of 90 days, can apply for this Special Tourist Visa. However, there is a list of criteria you have to fulfil.
1. Fly on Singapore Airlines
Part of the application for the Special Tourist Visa includes a ticket with Singapore Airlines. To learn more about Singapore Airlines flights, visit singaporeair.com.
2. Have relevant documents
Visitors need to be holding onto a passport that is valid for more than 12 months from the date of entry to Thailand. They also need to submit copies of their passport and completed declaration forms.
3. Undergo quarantine measures and rigorous medical testing
Visitors will need to adhere to strict health protocols, such as Covid-19 testing upon arrival as well as an initial 14-day quarantine. Visitors will also need to provide a payment confirmation of the Alternative State Quarantine (ASQ or Alternative Hospital Quarantine (AHQ) facilities for 14 days upon arrival in Thailand.
4. Have Thai medical insurance
Visitors are required to purchase Thai medical insurance covering hospitalisation and emergency/accident for the entire period of stay in Thailand, with a coverage for outpatient treatment of no less than 40,000 baht (S$1,735) and inpatient treatment of no less than 400,000 baht (S$17,350). In addition, you’ll need to be have your own travel insurance that covers all medical expenditure, including treatment of Covid-19, for the entire period of stay in Thailand in an amount of at least US$100,000.
5. Have at least S$21,693 in your bank account
In their visa application, visitors will need to produce an original statement from a local or a Thai bank showing a deposit of the amount equal to and not less than 500,000 baht (S$21,693) for six consecutive months before the date of visa application. Alternatively, you can produce a certificate of ownership of a property in Thailand or a buying/rental contract of a property in Thailand with the paid installation of no less than 25% of the property value.
After your visa has been approved, the eligibility for the visa will still be subjected to a revision every 15 days by Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health. Special Tourist Visa holders are also prohibited from any kind of employment.
