Although many retail spaces have reopened following the end of Singapore’s circuit breaker period, it’s no secret that the Covid-19 pandemic has depressed spending across the board. Department stores as well as boutiques selling apparel and accessories have been particularly hard hit, posting a year-on-year decline of between 21% and 32.1% in the latest report by the government’s Department of Statistics.
International chains may have the deep pockets to weather the proverbial storm, but local companies running smaller operations may not be as fortunate. So if you’re in the mood to treat yourself to something special or are looking for a gift to mark an occasion, consider going local by shopping at one of these homegrown multi-concept stores. The best part? They’re all online, so you can browse to your heart’s content from the comfort of your home.
1. eBoutiques
The much-anticipated Boutique Fairs Singapore – a biannual affair that gathers a host of local labels under one roof at the F1 Pit Building – unfortunately won’t be happening in-person anytime soon. However, it has launched an online multi-brand portal to offer customers the same curated experience virtually. The e-commerce platform is a showcase for beloved local brands such as fashion favourites Stolen and GRAYE; food retailers including Brass Lion Distillery; and accessories purveyors such as The Rocket Eyewear Company and EDEN + ELIE. While it may be impossible to replicate the full in-person retail experience virtually, shoppers will be able to chat live with designers and brand owners should they have any questions about the products.
2. Naiise
Naiise may have shuttered most of its brick-and-mortar stores (expect for the Jewel Changi Airport location) over the past couple of years, but everyone’s favourite local concept store is still offering a full range of made-in-Singapore products online. What’s more, the platform is currently running a “9.9” sale through to 13 September 2020, where you can expect over 2,500 deals of up to 70% off various items. So if you’ve had you eye on an adorable pineapple tart or curry puff plush toy from Nom Nom Plush or want to stock up on new Aenon dinner plates by Base Piece, now’s the time to get shopping. Naiise also has a selection of chic reusable fabric face masks by brands such as LOVE SG, La Tierra and Lunchmoney.
3. KrisShop
The official retailer of Singapore Airlines carries a host of international labels, but it also has a special concept store – With Love, SG – dedicated entirely to supporting local brands and offers a thoughtful selection of merchandise that showcases Singapore’s unique culture and heritage.Whether you’re in the mood to refill your snack cabinet with munchies from The Golden Duck Co. or single-origin chocolate from Fossa Chocolate; grab some unique blue-and-white porcelain plates from Ong Shunmugum; or switch up your skincare routine by trying the latest range from RE:ERTH, you’ll find everything you need with the click of a button.
