From our Editor: Get that planning on now…

Every year, mid-November onwards, we work a little harder at the LPMI office. We’re putting together, by then, our January issue, offering you suggestions for brilliant destinations to put on your bucket list, and our February edition, with cool breaks for summer 2020. Two issues together! All because we’re also getting ready to go on short breaks. Come the last week of December, all of us hope to be out and about, solo or with family and friends, to see off this year and welcome the new one.

We know you love travelling as much as we do – which is why this issue features our second round of great suggestions for a winter break. Some of these are really last-minute destinations; Sri Lanka offers Indians a free visa on arrival, and the visa for Taiwan is easy and quick, especially if you have a US, UK or Schengen visa already.

Others, like the hard-core Swedish Lapland adventure, the winter break in Tallinn, Estonia, the city-to-snow escape in Innsbruck, Austria and the year-end indulgences across the world in our Cool Splurges feature, might take a fortnight or so lead time for visas. The good news is that you still have time; the better news is that we’ve planned it all for you.

What if you’re staying put? You could still travel by your plate; the feature on 10 Indian winter dishes by culinary expert and food consultant Rushina Munshaw Ghildiyal invites you to discover our country via desi treats. Start that food journey off with the three recipes in the feature. Because, whether you actually hit the road, or sit back in your armchair and journey vicariously with us, there can be no better way than travel to celebrate the fact that winter is coming.
